One of the greatest parts about being an artist? Ask Betty, Shannon, Jennifer, and Tripp, and they may just tell you it’s the ability to put their talent to good use: Helping people in need. During 2013, Anglin Smith Fine Art helped raise money for a number of different charitable organizations. Let’s take a look.
This past November, the gallery raised over $5,000 for the Charleston County High School Fine Arts Program through CFADA’s (Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association) Fine Art Annual. The weekend kicked off with a plein air demonstration in Washington Park. Shannon, Jennifer, Betty, and guest artist Susan Mayfield then donated works to a silent auction, with all proceeds going to school supplies for Charleston high schools. In total, CFADA raised over $15,000 from this event.
Back in July, the gallery opened its doors to art lovers and foodies alike during CFADA’s 8th Annual Palette & Palate Stroll. The event pairs Charleston’s finest art galleries with Charleston’s finest restaurants for one fabulous night, with ticket proceeds going to CFADA’s scholarship fund. This year, we were paired with the restaurant Circa 1886. One word: yum!
Now let’s rewind to June. Tripp, Betty, Jennifer, and Shannon donated works to an organization dear to their hearts: The River Oaks Home for Girls. The fundraising event featured a silent auction, food by an Epicurean Feast, French wine, and Spanish classical guitar. By the end of the evening, $6,300 was raised for the orphanage that is being built on John’s Island.
The River Oaks Home’s mission is “to give each girl the opportunity to realize they were created for a purpose, to give them the support and love to be able to dream, to nurture the belief that they can fulfill their destiny and most importantly, to live a life of love that pours back into the lives of others and changes the community around them.”
And who can forget the Heart Ball? Last February, Jennifer and Shannon both donated paintings to the Heart Ball’s live auction, which raises money for American Heart Association research and programs designed to prevent heart disease. The night was a success (and a blast)—nationwide, the campaign raised over $51 million.
Next month on February 22, Shannon will be a featured artist at the Heart Ball yet again. Her painting Fine Dining will be part of the live auction. If you’d like to purchase tickets to the Heart Ball, visit the American Heart Association’s website.
