Published by Branning Publishing, The Smiths: Lowcountry Family of Artists presents the works of our gallery’s beloved artists… oil painter Betty Anglin Smith and her triplets—Tripp Smith, a black-and-white photographer, and Jennifer Smith Rogers and Shannon Smith Hughes, oil painters like their mother.

Though the Smiths have traveled the world to paint and photograph, it’s their home—Charleston, South Carolina, and the surrounding Lowcountry—that inspires most of their work. They have been capturing the Lowcountry’s coastal wetlands, historic architecture, and energetic spirit on both canvas and film for many years. During their years of creating art, their group of collectors, admirers, and friends has become quite large. For this book, a few from this group—including Monroe (who is best known for her Carolina-coast-based novels The Beach House and The Summer Girls), Charleston’s longtime mayor Joe Riley, artist Rhett Thurman, and gallery director Leigh Limehouse—explain what the Smiths’ art means to them and to Charleston.
